OUR PHILOSOPHY
Linen is a natural, beautiful, authentic, simple, and elegant fabric. It’s a fabric that speaks to us. The qualities it embodies are similar to those often associated with our own creations.
This simple observation gave rise to the idea of developing our line of home linens.
Jewelry for un chic fou and linen for un chic fou at home.
Just like our jewelry, our collections are limited editions, and we wanted to maintain un chic fou : elegance, timeless charm, and designs that are both simple and original. Soft, warm “earth tones” and high-quality artisanal finishes
A LITTLE HISTORY
Linen isone of the oldest fabrics used by humankind. More than 5,000 years ago, the Egyptians were already aware of its unparalleled qualities.
Its cultivation spread throughout France during the Middle Ages and then gradually moved northward to the Baltic states, where a thriving flax industry still exists today, supported bygenuine artisanal expertise.
SUSTAINABLE FARMING, RESPONSIBLE PROCESSING
un chic fou linen comes from France ( the world’s largest producer and source of the highest quality), where it is grown in strict compliance with organic farming standards. It is, by its very nature, sustainable because it consumes far less water and resources—both in cultivation and processing—than its cousin, cotton, and is completely biodegradable. Furthermore, its cultivation requires no pesticides.
Finally, both the cultivation and processing of the plant make use of every part of the fiber and fabric. The plant is useful from root to tip. During processing, every part is used to the very end to create even the smallest items (towels, dishcloths, baskets). It’s truly a zero-waste approach!
FAMILY-OWNED BUSINESS, ARTISANAL EXPERTISE, SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
For the weaving, we sought out a family-owned business that shares our values of authenticity, quality, sustainability, and a deep respect for human relationships and craftsmanship. We found them in Lithuania: a small family-run business that upholds production methods respectful of both the materials and the environment. Their production facility runs entirely on renewable energy and is now fully powered by solar energy from a photovoltaic array located right on their premises!
To work with linen properly, you have to understand it: know how to cut and weave it to bring out its natural beauty. That’s what motivated our choice. Unlike industrial facilities that stack dozens or hundreds of tablecloths to “slice” them with a press, our partner works on them one by one! They pull the thread to cut each piece.
Likewise, the fringes are made by hand: the frame is defined by hand-stitching, and then the threads are pulled out one by one by hand! This is meticulous craftsmanship that is rare these days.
QUALITY & CUSTOMIZATION
We have chosen a fabric that reflects our values: a thick, unbleached linen (270 g/m²), pre-washed to prevent shrinkage and ensure optimal softness, while retaining that comforting natural look. The finishes and seams are all crafted by hand. "Earth-tone" colors were chosen to enhance our interiors with understated elegance.
Recommendations
We recommend washing linen at a maximum temperature of 30°C or 40°C, always separating colors. You can tumble dry it, but avoid overloading the dryer and use low heat settings. For all items with fringe (tablecloths, cushion covers, etc.), we recommend using the “delicate” cycle to preserve the fringe’s beauty.
